Mindful Performance Enhancement (mPEAK)

Mindful Performance Enhancement Awareness and Knowledge (mPEAK) is a course to enhance the human capacity for mindfulness related to peak performance, resilience, focus and “flow.”

mPEAK is an eight-week (or 2+ day intensive) training program for individuals who push themselves towards excellence. This intensive course in mindfulness draws upon scientifically proven practices to expand what is possible in your life and career. Create conditions to attain performance and well-being goals and help develop the skills to support you along the way.

We don’t view mindful performance as a single event or a future outcome, we hold it as a present moment experience of the performer at their authentic best: in flow, at choice, and navigating with grace and grit. – mPEAK

mPEAK is an evidence-based, empirically researched course developed at the School of Medicine, Centre for Mindfulness at the University California, San Diego in conjunction with the USA Olympic BMX Cycling Team. The foundation of this program is based on the highly respected Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) curriculum and adapted to integrate seamlessly into the rhythms of your daily life. This training program is built around the latest brain research related to peak performance, resilience, focus, and “flow”. Whether you are an athlete, leader, coach, or performance artist, this course can help you, both personally and professionally.

No prior meditation experience is required. Those with an existing practice or who have attended a mindfulness course before will discover a new dimension to their practice.

As with physical training, this mental-emotional training is based on the understanding that optimal outcomes occur when participants are willing to engage in the practices daily. Program activities weave together a variety of guided meditations, reflections, and experiential exercises as well as some conceptual teaching, and an opportunity to share in the group.

This course is powerful for any stage of your journey. The emphasis of the program is to enhance attentional and emotional resources, as well as personal capacities through the following themes:

Mindful Edge-Power-Agility (EPA) Training

In this 5-week virtual or full-day intensive workshop, your team or group gets the opportunity to step into the body of a mindful performer. Based on group or team requirements, we build a custom program together that is right for you.

We sharpen Edges by building attentional muscles; we generate Power by holding a brave space for the awareness of emotions; and we build Agility by cultivating greater self-compassion, joy and positivity to give us stability through our peak performance and life moments.

Big goals naturally stretch us out of our comfort zone where we face different conditions than normal, including added levels of complexity unpredictability and pressure leading us to experience feelings of doubt, anxiety, fear and overwhelm. This program is specially designed to build capacities for individuals and teams who face consistent challenges and stretch themselves towards excellence.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course is unlike any sort of program you may have encountered before. It involves cultivating a different relationship between you and the things that challenge you in your life, and relies completely upon the tools you already have. Specifically, mindfulness helps you access the ability to be non-judgmental, compassionate, patient, present and aware. You wouldn’t have come this far if these qualities did not exist in you somewhere.

This course is intended to develop the innate ability to cultivate mindfulness over “mindlessness” – moments when we are unaware of where we are, what we are feeling and why we are doing what we are doing. Quite frequently, those are the moments that contribute most to our suffering. Mindfulness-based groups have a huge and growing body of research supporting their usefulness to address these issues.

The course schedule consists of eight weekly classes and one daylong class on a weekend. This is a highly participatory and practical course.

The course is challenging and life-affirming. Your instructors are accomplished and skilled at creating a safe, supportive, and deeply engaging learning environment that allows participants to seek, explore, and inquire.

In this program, you will learn:

  • Articulate the key aspects of mindfulness as it relates to stress reduction, coping with pain and illness and enhancing well-being
  • Differentiate MBSR from relaxation and other distraction techniques that may seem similar but are fundamentally and theoretically quite different in contending with difficulty and enhancing quality of life
  • Practice and apply mindfulness techniques in both personal and professional settings as a means of contending more effectively with the demands of both settings
  • Integrate mindfulness into social interaction with patients, colleagues, supervisors, family and friends to facilitate more effective

Team Coaching

Cultivating Group Flow Through Mindful Meditation

Team Coaching is provided on the ground and through virtual sessions to provide effective team performance training. Both leadership and coaching teams can benefit from moving through a training program together or alongside athlete sessions.

At the heart of personal performance is self-leadership. When teams are grounded with a sense of purpose and an understanding of common behaviors then work becomes play. Our mission: to help people build truly cohesive and effective teams that deliver results.

Through a virtual or classroom experience, team members better understand how they and others contribute to their team’s development, and how their part of the whole can make or break the team and its dynamic.

Individual Coaching

Mindfulness-Based Individual Coaching is a process to help individuals (re)gain composure being their best under stress, while stretching beyond familiar ways of being to advance personal performance goals.

The mentally strong performer “leads” his/her thoughts so through careful and curious observation of our reactions to triggering events, we can learn to mindfully respond to them, instead.

Event stress/trauma does not happen to us. It is something we experience and have choice in how we respond.

Tailored individual mindfulness coaching supports individual planning and growth around health, organization/culture challenges, and mental skills recovery. We work with athletes, coaches, leaders particularly around transitions or when feeling stuck, burnt out or looking to gain an edge in their performance and well-being.

Individual Coaching sessions are typically conducted virtually online, however an initial in-person session is beneficial.

Innovation & Problem Solving

Design solutions through human centred problem solving. This is where design thinking meets mindful performance.

Solve difficult problems and come up with innovative new solutions to the challenges you face. Empathy-based solutions get to the heart of issues that allow you bring something new to the world – something that you had not thought about before – and by doing it faster and with less risk.

It starts by being inspired with a problem and then framing it as a design challenge by asking: What problem or opportunity is motivating us to search for a solution?

From there, it is about letting go of pre-conceived ideas about the problem and trusting an established industry-leading process through a series of phases involving divergent and convergent thinking, user research, ideation, and prototyping.

It is a practical and rewarding experience making more of our unknowns known; providing the greatest probability for a successful implementation.
